In response to a request by Mayor Robert Garcia, the Long Beach Economic Development Commission (Commission) will create an Economic Development Blueprint (Blueprint) to support the creation of businesses, well-paying jobs, and increased economic activity. The plan will be based on data gathered by Beacon Economics, LLC and will eventually come to City Council for adoption in April 2017.
More information regarding the Blueprint, including Commission meeting dates and times, can be found at www.longbeach.gov/blueprint.

I look forward to reading the second part of this analysis. Neighborhoods across Long Beach have important assets and needs that will help create more nuanced benchmarks and goals. It will be critical to have specific health and wellness and education metrics, especially in the prenatal and early childhood ages, as part of the overall vision for economic development.

Another critical element of economic development is understanding and mapping all of current organizations working with families in Long Beach to meet their needs (food, housing, social services, childcare, etc). Long Beach (and LA County) has so many organizations "trying to help", but without a good understanding of who is doing what, we will continue to have redundancy and inefficient use of resources. This is part of the infrastructure that will be required to build a healthy, productive, creative and innovative workforce in Long Beach.

What a waste of money! Economic conditions are able to be estimated by the plain fact that our mayor does not keep accurate records of contracted work performed by the city.
Another example of waste, this stupid civic engagement via computers. It is an illusion of participation, not real engagement. What about the citizens who do not have access to computers? The consolidation attempt by Robert Garcia and his handlers is scary and needs to be redressed .
